Apprenticeship schemes
Our apprentices are appointed into the Maintenance Departments on each site and work with teams of Maintenance Technicians covering both the conventional and the reactor side of the plant. The work is varied, interesting and challenging, and will give you plenty of opportunities to put into practice the skills you will learn, and to demonstrate the safety knowledge you will have acquired. Training is an on-going part of our working life within British Energy, and you will be encouraged to take responsibility for your own development and to get involved in some of the many activities and projects within the stations.
What we offer
You will undertake a comprehensive training programme covering Electrical, Mechanical or Instrumentation skills. Following successful completion of your first year all apprentices will be streamed into their 3 separate engineering disciplines and will focus on trade specific training and completion of academic qualifications. This period of training may involve extended durations where you will be away from home, during this time all transport, accommodation and meals will be provided for you.
Upon completion of your four year apprenticeship, you will be awarded a modern apprenticeship as well as an NVQ or an SVQ level 3 and a National Certificate qualification, which may lead to the option to continue to Higher National certificate (HNC) level.
What we look for
To gain one of our apprenticeships you must have a good standard of general education and an aptitude for practical subjects. You should also have or expect to achieve a minimum of five GCSEs, or equivalent including Grade C or above in Mathematics, English and Science subjects.
