Scale model of Sizewell B

These simple scale models of Sizewell B power station are constructed from around 70 pieces, which can be printed on A4 card. The model is available in two sizes:

1:800 scale - prints on 17 sheets of A4 card (6 MB)
This model is just under 50cm x 40cm and around 9cm high.

1:1600 scale - prints on 5 sheets of A4 card (3 MB)
This model fits on an A4 base.

Each of the .pdf files includes instructions and illustrates how the buildings are put together and their arrangement on the site. (Please note these files are quite large and may take some time to download, depending on the speed of your connection.)

You can also download a model of a PWR fuel assembly of the type used at Sizewell B and similar reactors worldwide.

Fuel Assembly (1.3 MB)
When completed the model is just under 28cm long and around 4cm high.

The models were designed by Colin Tucker, a Nuclear Safety Engineer at Sizewell B power station.

Note that whilst the power station models accurately illustrate the arrangement and relative sizes of the major buildings at Sizewell B power station, some changes in detail have been made for security reasons.

If you enjoy making these models and wish to try something more challenging, you may be interested to know that a 1:800 scale card model of the European Pressurised Water Reactor (EPR) can be downloaded from the AREVA website:
